This is also the case within Hockey Ultimate Team. EA traditionally does collector modes better than every other developer of sports video games, but it is the only developer that still doesn’t allow you to completely customize your team’s identity. That’s a disconnect for me and one of the reasons I tend to stick to Draft Champions in the mode.
I’m a Chicago Blackhawks fan and when I want to play with my team, I pick that squad in a franchise mode or in online head-to-head matches. If I want to use the Blackhawks, but I want to use scrambled rosters, I’ll start a franchise mode with a fantasy draft. When I’m playing a collector mode, I want to control and manage my own team, not the Blackhawks and certainly not another NHL or AHL squad.
I’m not sure why EA Sports games resist this level of customization in its sports game when others aren't.
Be-A-Pro Needs More Layers
Be A Pro is back, but it is perhaps the mode that is in the most need of an upgrade. There’s nothing really new on this front, and the game could benefit from a story mode similar to what we see in FIFA with The Journey and Madden with Longshot.
A story-driven mode could help to broaden the appeal of the sport to those who are first attracted by the story.
Also, the Create-A-Player suite needs more options. Aside from not being able to upload a face using GameFace technology, there’s no face sculpting feature.
You’re basically just selecting templates, altering skin tones and picking from 20-25 different hairstyles which put NHL 19 behind games like MLB The Show, WWE 2K and what has been introduced for NBA 2K19. WWE 2K’s player creation tool is at the top of the mountain, MLB The Show is next and FIFA’s is strong. If NHL could bring its tool near that level, especially with CHEL now a part of the mix, it would add value.
Where is the NHL in the World of CHEL?
EA's new virtual hockey environment has almost no integration of the real NHL experience. You can’t take your player through Be A Pro, which disconnects CHEL from every other part of the game’s experience a little too much. NBA 2K has been guilty of overlinking things, but I think they get it right by making your created player the center of most of the online components.

If CHEL had the Be A Pro option and a career for your player, it would create some relatable challenges and goals to attain.
If there is an area of the game that could use a touch-up on the visual side, it’s the crowd. While it’s still a lively virtual bunch, it’s beginning to lose its shine and edge over crowds like the one we see in MLB The Show. There are some nice touches like the heckler outside of the penalty box, but next year’s version might be the one in need of a fan upgrade.
Some Shotty Puck and Stick Physics
My biggest beef with gameplay is the stick and puck collision detection with skaters. The interactions with the goalies appear to be spot-on, but out on the ice, things can get a little sketchy. If you deke a defender, switch grips as you prepare for a shot, there are some noticeable clipping and passthrough with the objects. I know that eliminating clipping is something that no sports game has mastered, but if a hockey game isn’t recognizing when sticks are colliding, or passing through a puck, that’s an issue that can’t be ignored.
Injuries Are Few and Far Between
I played a good number of franchise mode games without seeing injuries. I checked the settings to ensure they were on, but they didn't appear to be happening at all. It took way too long to see an injury. While no one is going to be begging to lose a player in a franchise mode, if you're looking for realism, injuries are a part of the game.
The Presentation Has Fallen Behind
Unfortunately, there is more bad than good in the way of presentation. The commentary is too repetitive and it seems as though the number of names in the database has shrunk. For example, John Tavares is an 8-year pro and a really good player, but there is never a mention of his name when he has control of a puck or is involved in a play. There are others in the game with the same situation.
This kind of omission is even more noticeable when Mike Emrick calls out other players like Evgeni Malkin’s name every time he touches the puck. Obviously, Malkin’s career is a cut above Tavares’ but the latter is significant enough to mention.
During franchise modes, there isn’t enough dialog that is specific to the mode during your games. I like the pre-game setup where they discuss win streaks or the last five games or so, but during contests, we should hear more about player’s individual stories. I played into the sixth game of a season and simmed further ahead, and the references were sparse.
When the live video presentation of Emrick and Eddie Olczyk was introduced a few years ago, it was a nice departure from what we’d seen in sports games, but at this point, it seems to limit where they can go from a depth and substance standpoint. The pre-recorded clips seem loosely based on the situation and lack the specificity to make the intended impact.
Lastly, the menu system is one I don’t particularly like. The amount of options the game offers is great, and it’s one of NHL 19’s biggest strengths, but the presentation and introduction of the features aren’t executed as well as they could have been. There is a “What’s New” video, but it wasn’t very informative.
Also, there is no onboarding for a user who might have skipped a year or two of the game with the franchise. Some sort of interactive consultation that could recommend a starting point would have been very helpful and unique.
Franchise Mode Issues
The stat overlays that would normally help to make franchise mode games feel different are missing. Madden, NBA 2K, and MLB The Show do a better job creating the franchise mode atmosphere. You should be able to look at a franchise mode contest and immediately know what part of the season you're in, and ideally how well the team is doing overall in that particular season.

How Long Does It Take To Download Nhl 17 Online
NHL 19 is still a fun virtual hockey experience, and that’s the biggest thing.
The World of CHEL adds a much-needed layer of personality, playability, and lightheartedness to the franchise. The depth of each mode goes a long way toward meeting almost every virtual hockey fan wherever they are with their fandom. On the downside, there is a lack of customization, some collision-detection issues, as well as some dated and less-than-impressive presentation elements.
However, putting more weight on gameplay, depth and visual appeal, NHL 19 still ultimately finds the back of the net, even with a few penalties along the way.

How Long Does It Take To Download Nhl 17 Player
So I had to reinstall watchdogs this morning due to an issue with a update not triggering properly and I have been instantly reminded of the thing I hate the most in this new generation, installation. both machines seem to take forever to install games from discs. Its been 3 hours and I'm only up to 17% installed on watchdogs, fuck this shit... Its says I can play but we all know that its just the very beginning of the game that's playable and I wont be able to access my save till the install is complete

Does anyone know why this is? Are bluray drives super slow? I mean last gen games seemed to take about 5 to 10 minutes to install and they were about a quarter of the size (6 gig or so when compared to 17- 25 gigs) I expected an install time of maybe an hour. Why the fuck does it take so goddamned long.
All this gen seems to be so far is waiting, waiting on installs waiting on patches waiting on DLC waiting on actual fucking releases...
